Blauer Reiter
MDF, acrylic paint
8 ¼” H x 2 ½” W x ½” D

Blauer Reiter exhibited in Explorations in Monochromatic Art from March 16-April 24, 2024 at Arts Benicia in California.

While this work refers to the early twentieth-century art movement Der Blaue Reiter, it also alludes to the ideal spiritual color and transcendent activity that artist and art movement co-creator Wassily Kandinsky promoted within its namesake. The artwork seen here was formally derived from an outline of a television remote control, which often provides armchair users the illusion of this same “ability to move beyond” promoted in Der Blaue Reiter art movement’s philosophy.
