2021

6″ H x 10 ½” W x 1¼” D (15.25 cm H x 26.6 cm W x 3.2 cm D)

This sculpture was shown in The Fall of Civilization group exhibition at the Louise Hopkins Underwood Center for the Arts from August 6 – September 25, 2021 and in the Contemporary Art Survey group exhibition at Lincoln Center from November 10, 2021 – January 8, 2022.
The title 16:9 Purpleheart refers to both the visual aspect ratio commonly found on viewing screens and electronic devices, reflected in the dimensions of the sculpture, and the Proverbs 16:9 Biblical passage “A man’s heart plans his way, but the Lord directs his steps.” While, as humans in contemporary times, we devise technological freedom and physical isolation, the sovereignty of nature and our divine higher power will ultimately lead us to where and who we need to be.
